Saturday The solar power system is hit and miss. Partly due to cloudy skies, partly due to cheap batteries, partly due to trees blocking the sunlight. I took the last of the fully painted deck boards over to Ahi. The last time I was there, I counted that I needed 14 more. I have 10Continue reading “March 18, 2023”

Friday Turned over the boards that I painted yesterday so I could paint the other side. Then I stood them on edge and painted the edges. I got the second side and one edge of each board painted before I ran out of white paint! Each board needs the second edge painted. I guess IContinue reading “March 17, 2023”

Thursday I have all the main rafters/joist installed on the gazebo. Working on the deck boards and the fascia and barge rafters. Sorted out the last 15 of my deck boards for the Ahi gazebo roof/ceiling and began painting them in the morning. In the afternoon, I went to Ahi and cut 45 degree mitresContinue reading “March 16, 2023”

Wednesday I took six of the painted deck boards over to the Ahi lot. While there, I painted the two fascia boards and one more 2 x 6 to be used for blocking. Then I ran out of red paint. Then I returned to Holowai. Using some scrap wood, the threaded rod and the 6″Continue reading “March 15, 2023”

Tuesday Bright and sunny today. Spent the morning at Holowai painting the deck boards for Ahi gazebo. In the afternoon I went to the Ahi lot and installed more solid blocking between the ceiling joist. I now have a row of solid blocking over each of the center beams. Kind of a slow, take itContinue reading “March 14, 2023”

Monday Painted some of the 2 x 6 decking boards for the Ahi gazebo in my “workshop” at Holowai. Took a shower at a little after 11 AM using the water from my solar water heater. It was quite warm. There was no breeze to make me cold while I showered! Drove to Hilo toContinue reading “March 13, 2023”

Sunday During the past week, I have dug footings at the top of the driveway at the Ahi lot for “gateposts” – one on each side of the driveway. As they will only be 2 feet tall, there will be no “gates”. These are only for markers to the driveway. Basically, they are a rockContinue reading “March 12, 2023”

Monday We went to the Ahi lot. Alanah painted 8 of the 2 x 6 rafters/ceiling/floor joists while I adjusted the heights of the posts under the beams. I picked up a 4 x 4 post that was 1″ short of what I needed. Rather than put a 1″ block under this post, I decidedContinue reading “March 6, 2023”

Sunday Bright and sunny today. After breakfast, Alanah started to paint the letters for Ahi Road on the address sign for the Ahi road lot. I went over to the Ahi Road lot and dug footings at the top of the driveway on each side. I want to build a rock column at each sideContinue reading “March 5, 2023”

Saturday I unloaded the rebar and the cement at the Ahi lot while Alanah cut some of the tall grass at the property line on Ahi Road. I hauled the cut grass to the bottom of the driveway. Then we went out to the shore line at Honu’apo. We soaked in the small wading poolsContinue reading “March 4, 2023”
